violet hill

I finally read the manual on my Canon last night when I couldn't sleep. Katy and I went up to Dinosaur Hill today and I put my newly honed skills to practice lol.

the dry grass stuff there reminded me of Coldplay's "Violet Hill" for some reason
so I decided to sit down in the grass for about 10 minutes. good thing I'm fearless or I might've been terrified of snakes or something. ha. so I shot for awhile and I was happy.

my senior project and Uncle Wes' reaction

I showed that to my Uncle Wes who is visiting from NYC today.

he thought it was one of the greatest things he had ever seen. and he told me that a lot of the photography he sees he doesn't really like. but he really liked mine so that meant a lot. and he told me not to give it up, to keep pursuing it and that was awesome.

he's super cool. :D

I also gave my in-class presentation today and at the end of the DVD Mr. Ellison said "You really do have an eye" and that meant a lot coming from him.

it's just nice to hear that your work is appreciated, that's all I could really ask for. it also encourages me to continue pursuing my photographic dreams. :D

Clear Creek Cemetery

so last Saturday (March 8) Melissa, Olivia, Jack, and I went to the Clear Creek Cemetery down the road from Butte College for a shoot.
big problem that day: SUN.
full on direct sunlight, no clouds.
it was awful.
but I shot 5 rolls of film anyway. we had a really super fun time together.

we started off in the cemetery.

then we went down to a dried up creek that had a neat rock at the end of it.

then we went up on the hill and lied down in the grass and had fun up there.

then we went back down to a fence at the end of the dried up creek.

afterwards we were all beat up and dirty and it was great. :D Olivia's foot was bleeding and I found bruises and scrapes all over later that night.

Walking in a Straight Line

I did this this week in my photo class. I printed a picture, of a pier in San Francisco, 3 times: one 8x10, one 5x7, one 3 1/2x5.
then I layered them and placed the smaller two crookedly on the large one so the rail and building lines would match up.

I will never use 200 speed film again. Ever.

I went out to shoot some stuff for my senior project yesterday with 200 speed film because that's all my mother could get at Safeway.
I really feel like crying right now.
first off, the sun was low in the sky and directly on us, so that proved for harsh shadows and difficult metering.
secondly, we shot inside an old stable and shed and most of the pictures turned out flat.
I am just so disappointed in myself right now.

Eva did a GREAT job, I'd totally use her as a model again. but unfortunately it's my fault that the pictures of her didn't turn out and such.

and since most of the film didn't turn out, that means I still have to shoot some more.
gosh I'm so aggravted and disappointed in myself.

what I was born to do

photography is truly my passion.

what I want to convey through my photography is a sense of beauty that you can find all around you, but you might not notice at a passing glance.

when I'm in the car, or even walking around, I find myself constantly looking at my surroundings, envisioning an endless amount of photographic possibilities.

I try to have my camera with me at all times, or my camera phone at the very least.
